Frequently Asked Questions

A Few Things You May Be Wondering

What ages does Full Thought work with?

Full Thought is designed for school-aged children who are ready to engage in conversation, reflection, and guided activities. Because every child develops differently, fit is considered individually rather than based on age alone.

Does my child need to have a diagnosis or a specific problem?

No. A child does not need a diagnosis or a specific concern to participate in Full Thought. Some families may be looking for support around a particular challenge, while others simply want to help their child develop stronger critical-thinking, emotional-awareness, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Is Full Thought therapy?

No. Full Thought Consulting, LLC is a psychoeducational consulting service, not psychotherapy, counselling, psychological assessment, diagnosis, or medical treatment. Sessions are educational and developmental in nature and focus on helping children explore how they think, feel, interpret experiences, consider perspectives, and make thoughtful choices.

What happens during a Full Thought session?

Sessions are individualised to the child and may include conversation, stories, scenarios, questions, activities, and guided reflection. Children are encouraged to slow down, become curious about what they are thinking and feeling, consider different possibilities and perspectives, and develop their own thoughtful responses.

Do parents participate in sessions?

Parents are an important part of the Full Thought process, although the child's sessions are designed to give them space to think and express themselves independently. Parent involvement may include the initial consultation, sharing relevant observations and concerns, and conversations about themes, strategies, or ways to reinforce developing skills outside of sessions.

How many Full Thought sessions will my child need?

There is no predetermined number of sessions. Frequency and duration are considered individually and may change as your child grows. We check in along the way to discuss what we are noticing, areas of growth and strength, and what may be most helpful moving forward, and decisions about continuing, pausing, or spacing out sessions are always made together.

Can I work with Full Thought without my child attending sessions?

Yes. Parent Consulting allows parents to learn the Full Thought approach and apply it within everyday interactions at home. Sessions focus on understanding your child’s needs and developing thoughtful ways to support reflection, regulation, problem-solving, and decision-making.

What happens during a Parent Consulting session?

We reflect on real situations happening at home — what your child struggled with, how the situation was handled, and what could be approached differently next time. Parents learn practical language, questions, and strategies that encourage children to pause, think, and make thoughtful choices.

Can Parent Consulting be used alongside my child’s sessions?

Yes. Parent Consulting can be used independently or alongside individual Full Thought sessions to help reinforce the same skills at home.

Curious About Full Thought?

You don’t need to know exactly what your child needs before reaching out. Start with a conversation about your child, what you’re noticing, and what you hope they may gain from Full Thought.
